On Tuesday 31st October, Year 2 visited the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney.
During the excursion, the students were able to explore the Botanic Garden and learn about minibeasts and much more! The day included:
- a walk through the garden – noticing lots of different animals, trees and flowers
- digging in soil to find minibeasts
- holding worms
- swishing nets in water to find living things
- looking at specimens through a microscope
- looking at silk worms and moths
- looking at stick insects
- playing a game on an iPad
- sketching minibeasts
- walking through the Calyx to view the beautiful pollination display.
Everyone had such a great time, including the teachers and the parents!
Thank you to our lovely parent helpers who helped us on the day!
Take a look at the photos below!
What was your favourite part of the excursion?
Dear Teachers and Students,
My favourite part of the excursion is when we got to find the insect and I found a insect when they was just explaining. I also liked it when we were looking for the minibeast in the water. One group even found a little fish and everyone made a big fuss.

The excursion to The Royal Botanical gardens was really exciting, I enjoyed it a lot. The best part of the excursion was when we dug under the dirt with paintbrushes and put it in a jar. I also liked it when we saw a powerful owl.

My favourite part was when the worms we’re wriggling in my hand.
When we went inside the building I didn’t like the activity with the ipads Because it wasn’t that fun.
I loved the part when I got to feel the moths because they we’re so soft and warm.
I liked the part when I used the net to catch minibeasts.
The worst part of the day was recess because it was full of ibises.
I loved lunch because there was not even a single ibis.
The second worst part was when we had to leave because when I go somewhere that is a fun place, at the time I have to go I get EXTREMELY upset.
I hope I get to go there again.
It was a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Year Two,
I liked digging for tiny minibeasts because I wondered what type of them I would get. I also liked seeing the big, powerful owl that sat on a very large tree.
I did not like to walk much because it was tired and sweaty.
I learnt that minibeasts are important and that we should look after them.
Kind Regards,
